This condiment is versatile and can enhance your favorite dishes with its spicy flavor. Making it at home is easy and allows for customization. By incorporating various types of chiles into your spice collection, you can introduce diverse flavors into your cooking, ranging from fruity notes to significant heat. Depending on your preference, you can grind the chilies into a powder or rehydrate them in hot water or oil before adding them to your dish.
Ingredients:
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp red pepper flakes
3 dried chile peppers
4 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
Steps:
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over low heat for about 5 minutes, ensuring it does not bubble; gently warm it up.
In the meantime, add red pepper flakes, dried chile peppers, and sliced garlic to a medium bowl.
Once the oil is warm, pour it over the mixture in the bowl and stir well. Allow the oil and spices to steep for about an hour.
After the oil has cooled, pour it into a clean mason jar and seal it tightly. If you prefer a milder flavor, strain the oil the next day through a fine-mesh sieve into another jar.
Notes:
Store your homemade Chile Garlic Olive Oil in the pantry for up to three months.
The chile oil is ideal for drizzling pasta, pizza, or grilled vegetables. It also makes a delicious dipping sauce for bread.
